A field-based jungle expedition preparation and leadership standard delivered in the Darién region of Panama.
Darien Academy is not a survival school. It is a foundation for expeditioners, researchers, photographers and small-team leaders preparing for extended self-reliant work in the world's densest tropical rainforests.
Where infrastructure is absent and resources are limited, the individual is the system. Every course is built around that reality — sharpening the competencies, judgement and composure that long expeditions demand.
Darien Academy delivers structured jungle expedition preparation for people and small teams preparing to operate in remote tropical environments. Training focuses on movement, navigation, camp systems, hygiene, water, medical readiness, leadership, decision-making and sustainment under field conditions.
A 2-day introduction to jungle readiness, field systems and expedition mindset.
A 14-day field-based jungle preparation course for serious individuals and small teams.
Bespoke support for expedition teams, documentary crews, researchers, organisations and private clients.
Submit your background, objectives and the type of training you are interested in.
We discuss your goals, fitness, experience, medical considerations and expectations.
Suitable applicants receive joining instructions, kit guidance, insurance requirements and preparation advice.
Training is delivered in small cohorts with structured objectives, safety oversight and clear field standards.
Participants leave with honest feedback, practical lessons and next-step recommendations.

Our students train in conditions identical to those of real expeditions — limited gear, limited support, full dependence on personal skill and team coordination.

Darien Academy is led by Daniel Eggington, a British expedition leader, retained firefighter, Wilderness First Responder and jungle operator with experience across Central America, South America and Central Africa. His work combines expedition leadership, field risk management, tropical movement systems, medical readiness and real-world jungle experience.
Participants learn to move with control, manage energy, maintain route awareness, and operate safely in dense jungle terrain.
Participants learn to build and maintain disciplined camp systems that protect sleep, hygiene, equipment, recovery, and team function.
Participants learn to prevent avoidable health issues, recognise early signs of deterioration, and understand medical escalation in remote jungle settings.
Participants learn how communication, accountability, restraint, and decision-making affect team safety and performance in demanding environments.
Participants learn the routines and behaviours required to remain operational over time, including water, food, hygiene, recovery, kit discipline, and fatigue management.
Darien Academy is designed for people who need more than a jungle experience. It is for those preparing to operate, lead, film, research, travel or work in demanding tropical environments.
Years operating, training and leading in tropical jungle environments across Central and South America.
Darien Academy is not built around entertainment, fear or fantasy survival scenarios. The focus is on practical expedition systems: movement, hygiene, water, navigation, camp routine, fatigue management, medical risk and calm decision-making under pressure.
